RECRUITMENTiQ is working with a leading salmon and sea trout conservation charity to assist with their recruitment of a part-time Finance Officer.

The Role

The Finance Officer will report to the Office Manager and will work as part of this small team dedicated to salmon conservation. Responsible for the day-to-day full finance function operations from transactional processing and reconciliations, to assisting with the preparation of Management and Statutory Accounts and audit cycle.

The post is part-time and permanent in nature. The hours will be 1 or 2 days per week depending on needs.

The Trust operates a hybrid system of working from the main offices at Battleby, which is located just north of the city of Perth in Scotland. This post will need to be in the office a minimum of 1 day per week.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop an effective in-house finance function, manage day-to-day financial operations, and put systems in place to ensure the organization can continue to flourish and grow. This work will not be undertaken solely by the Finance Officer, but with the help of the CEO and Office Manager

Maintain financial ledger records using XERO, ensuring that financial transactions are properly updated, recorded and that all financial reports are accurate. Assist in the management of cash controls including bank reconciliation, payment of invoices, credit card transactions, and administration of staff expenses, ensuring all expenditures are within the agreed budget and have the appropriate authorisation. Liaise with the payroll service provider to coordinate monthly staff payroll and pension arrangements

Produce invoices for payments due to the Trust and monitor payments by creditors. Record and where required acknowledge donations and grants received at the Trust and allocate to the appropriate income stream, liaising with the Trust's fundraisers to keep them informed on donations and grants received

Identify and resolve invoicing issues, accounting discrepancies, and other financial-related issues

Working with the OM and CEO the postholder will generate monthly reports of the Trust's finances, and quarterly Board finance reports. Prepare financial reports for colleagues who have responsibility for project management as required and support staff with budgetary projections for funding applications.

Provide direct support to OM and CEO in the preparation of all financial statements and proposals including Annual Accounts and Audit

The Finance Officer will not be undertaking this work on their own but will be supported by the Office Manager

Essential Skills and Experience

2 years experience in a financial management role.

Demonstratable advanced competency in MS Excel and Xero through professional development.

Experience of financial budgetary advice to Senior staff.

Experience in working with accountants to prepare annual reports and audits.

A sound understanding of the requirements of an audit and preparing those accounts ready for the audit process.

Highly numerate with experience in designing and managing integrated, multi-sheet financial workbooks

Ability to plan and manage workload to meet agreed-on targets, and meet deadlines under pressure

Educated to a Higher level or equivalent

An Accounting Technician (or equivalent) qualification or part-qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA etc) or qualified by suitable experience

Experience with financial budgetary advice to senior staff.

Impeccable attention to detail and understanding of the requirement to work in line with internal policies and legal/regulatory rules

Strong influencing and communication skills

An analytical approach - able to produce clear, meaningful reports

Desirable Skills and Experience

An understanding of the financial governance responsibilities of charities

Good time management and organisational skills to support the executive team and office function

Working as part of a small, dedicated team
